St. Matthew’s Church Choir

St. Matthew’s Church has had a choir for at least the last 50 years.  The choir sings during the 10:30 service on Sunday mornings from September through Trinity Sunday.  The choir also sings for special services and feast days throughout the liturgical year.

The choir’s most important role is to lead the congregation in singing hymns and service music, but the choir also sings an offertory anthem on most Sundays.  We sing a variety of church music, rich traditional music accompanied on our historic Tracker pipe organ built in the late 1800’s as well as contemporary music accompanied on piano.  Whatever the instrument, the church’s high vaulted ceiling creates a wonderful full tone.

Our choir is small, but we are blessed with very talented musicians: instrumentalists, soloists, and cantors.  We most often sing in four parts, and we joyfully welcome new members, regardless of their ability to read music.  Choir rehearsals are on Sundays from 8:30 am  (mid September through Trinity Sunday).

With the leadership of the choir we have strong congregational participation in the singing of hymns and service music, which is good, because our goal is to enjoy what we are doing as we enhance our worship of God in our services each Sunday.
