Making a Contribution to St. Matthew’s

The most substantial contribution that any person can give to the Church is their active participation in the life of the community — through worship and prayer and involvement in one of the numerous ministries at St. Matthew’s.  (To learn more about these ministries click here.) It would not be possible for these ministries to exist, however, were it not for the financial contributions of our members and friends.

Making a One-time or Occasional Contribution

If you would like to make a one time or occasional contribution to St. Matthew’s Church, checks made payable to St. Matthew’s Church may be sent to the attention of the Pledge Secretary at St. Matthew’s Church: 20 Union Street, Hallowell, Maine 04347.

Making a Commitment to Giving Regularly

The blessings we each receive from God are too many to number.  As a sign of our gratitude to God for these blessings we invite members to offer a portion of their time, talent and treasure to the building up of God’s church here on earth.  While we hold up the tithe (10 %) as the biblical standard for the sharing of our financial resources, we also acknowledge that every person’s financial situation is different and that particularly in this time of economic hardship this is simply not possible for many.  Our prayer is that members will give with a sense of intention, taking time to prayerfully consider what God is calling them to give.

As a matter of spiritual discipline many parishioners at St. Matthew’s have committed themselves to proportional giving.  Proportional Giving suggests that the amount we give back to God is pegged to a specific percentage of our income (1%, 2%, 3%…).  This approach fosters a sense of equitable giving; persons having different incomes who give the same percentages are making relatively equal contributions.  Proportional Giving also enables us to deepen our commitment over time by making incremental increases in the percentage pledged.

In the end whatever you choose to give is a blessing and is very much appreciated!
